FAQ’s about the Sculpta-Face kits
Q: What is a skullature.
A: It is a cross between a human skull and an armature, its 1/4 life-size, though we also supply them in life size for skilled sculptors and mini size for primary schools
Q: Why use a skullature , why not simply use a piece of clay.
A: It can be very intimidating to have a lump of clay put in your hands and be instructed to “get creative”. What usually happens is the clay is put on the table and ends up as a Pizza face, two hole for eyes , a pinch for a nose and a gash for a mouth.
All a skullature does is take away that initial fear and gives a good ‘head’ start.
Q: Isn’t the sculpta face kit limiting, you can only produce faces.
A: There has to be a common starting point somewhere and this will allow you to gauge what you can do, how much you should follow the instructional DVD or how much you can be creative using your own imagination. It’s also great fun. The other brilliant thing about creating faces is the reference material is all around us look at faces, how an ear is formed or the delicate skin around the eye, we use techniques to allow students to actually use their eyes to take in visual information, rather than just to stop bumping into things!

A: No need for firing, the air drying clay will harden in normal room temperature then simply seal it with the sealer provided in the kit, that will allow finished items to be kept as treasured possessions for ever without firing.
